Seascape

The artist presents a multimedia installation comprising of moving image and music, titled “seascape” which can be described as a coda to her most recent exhibition, titled “Embroidered Textual Scapes” This work features footage of the Mediterranean Sea, intercut with ‘nets’, digitally augmented images/collage of her newest work.

Seascape It is a reflection of the ways in which the sea has and continues to influence the lives of those inhabiting its bounded lands. It is an ode to the ecosystem, local and global. An allusion to the web of human relationships that hold our fragile ecology; the engraved and printed nets emerge through the natural beauty of the sea and the flow of its waves. The crowds of humans who weave their own, uncertain journeys across the Mediterranean. The sound similarly explores this reflection; a dialogue seems to exist between the wind instrument and wind itself; the natural sound of waves and aquatic, submerged world. This dialogue seem to break down eroded by the will of the wave, signalling the emergent need to extend our boundaries of thought. The viewer is invited to expand their framework of care, extending it to other humans and perhaps even non-human entities and environments.

Presented by the European Union and DC Listening Lounge in collaboration with the HirshhornState of the Arts Night x Sound Scene was an evening featuring performance, conversation, and interactive projects inspired by sound and the Solstice. The event highlighted our unity in diversity along with our collective concern for the future of our planet. Attendees reflected on the passage of time, celebrated the joy of human interaction, explored the allure of the cosmos, and much more.
